What Is Tekashi69’s Net Worth?

With a net worth estimated at $500 thousand, Tekashi69 is an American rapper, social media figure, and convicted felon. He stands out as one of the most contentious rappers globally, known for both his artistic ventures and personal controversies. In 2015, he admitted guilt to charges related to involving a child in a sexual performance, and in 2018, he faced arrest based on racketeering, weapons, drug offenses, and conspiracy to commit murder. As part of a plea deal, he testified against former gang members, subsequently receiving a two-year sentence which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing for his early release under house arrest.

Despite a relatively short career thus far, Tekashi has been able to amass significant wealth. He has reportedly entered numerous appearance and contract deals that potentially total tens of millions of dollars. Further details regarding his financial situation will be elaborated on in the following paragraph.

Financial Issues

To be candid, pinning down Tekashi69’s finances is challenging on a month-to-month basis. There is no doubt that he has secured numerous multi-million dollar contracts for records and concerts. Additionally, he has accrued substantial earnings from streaming royalties, predominantly through his YouTube channel, which boasts 20 million followers and over 5 billion views on his videos.

However, his career effectively halted for two years following his prison sentence.

In March 2022, Tekashi presented court documents indicating severe financial distress stemming from his loss of income due to this career pause. He claimed to receive no royalty earnings and was unable to generate revenue through touring.

Specifically, his submission stated:

Right now, I am struggling to make ends meet. I do not know if I will ever command the kind of advances I was paid before my arrest and my career stalled.

These documents were part of a civil lawsuit initiated by two former associates, with Tekashi asserting that proceeding with the lawsuit could lead to his “bankruptcy.”

A month later, he shared a video on Instagram displaying several million dollars in cash as well as a collection of cars valued at over a million dollars:

The day after he shared the video on Instagram, Tekashi joined “TMZ Live” where Harvey Levin directly questioned him about how he could display such large amounts of cash while simultaneously asserting to a judge that he was broke. Here’s how the exchange unfolded:

Harvey Levin:

You owe approximately a million dollars in restitution, and you’ve indicated to a judge that you are financially unable to pay it.

Then Harvey’s co-host contributed:

Your attorney mentioned that filing for bankruptcy was a possibility.

Harvey then stated:

However, you’re spending two million dollars. Doesn’t that put you at risk of having those funds seized?

Tekashi responded:

I am currently broke. I don’t have any money. And that cash was just prop money.

Early Life

On May 8, 1996, Daniel Hernandez, known as Tekashi69, was born in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York. His mother hails from Mexico, while his father is Puerto Rican. He only met his father when he turned nine, having previously believed that his father had passed away. In reality, Daniel Sr. was a heroin addict who had been incarcerated.

Later on, his father would assert that the mother’s family obstructed Daniel Sr. from having contact with Daniel Jr., even going to the extent of tearing up the letters he sent from prison.

The family faced significant financial difficulties, particularly after Daniel’s stepfather was shot dead on the front steps of their home in 2010 when Daniel was just 14. This tragic event led to severe psychological trauma for Daniel, necessitating visits to a therapist for PTSD and depression treatment. Around this period, he began to misbehave in school, resulting in his expulsion in the 8th grade. Following his departure from school, Daniel took on a job at a grocery store to support his family financially.

Rap Career

At the age of 16, Daniel started his journey in rapping. A significant opportunity came when he encountered the CEO of a record label who visited the Brooklyn bodega where he was employed. This record executive, Peter “Righteous P” Rogers, owned a label named Hikari-Ultra. Peter motivated Daniel to start releasing his original music.

His debut track, aptly named “69,” was launched in 2014, followed by several additional singles throughout that year. Over the subsequent three years, Daniel, who later adopted the stage name Tekashi 6ix9ine, produced a series of albums and music videos that gained him moderate acclaim within the underground rap community. Following the release of his 2018 album “Dummy Boy,” Tekashi69 launched his second album, “TattleTales,” in 2020, which made its debut at #4 on the U.S. “Billboard” 200 chart.

Success

In 2018, Tekashi69 unveiled his debut mixtape, “Day69.” His first single “Gummo” ascended to #6 on the US Rap chart, #7 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and #12 on the “Billboard” Hot 100, earning a Gold certification. The single “Kooda” also received Gold certification and peaked at #29 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart and #50 on the “Billboard” Hot 100. His collaborative single “Keke” (featuring Fetty Wap and A Boogie wit da Hoodie) reached #20 on the US Rap chart, #22 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and #43 on the “Billboard” Hot 100.

Reported Record Deals

6IX9INE has taken to social media to boast about various record and management agreements. In January 2018, he claimed (in an Instagram post that has since been deleted) to have signed a record deal worth $7.5 million. A month later, he asserted that he had a $15 million management contract with Birdman’s RICHGANG company. Shortly after that, he mentioned a $4.9 million deal for endorsing a headphone brand. However, several industry insiders we consulted found no substantiation for the existence of these deals.

$10 Million Deal

In October 2019, Tekashi finalized a confirmed record agreement with 10K Projects, which is reportedly valued at a minimum of $10 million and will encompass two upcoming albums—one in English and another in Spanish.

GlobalStreamNow Deal

In July 2020, Tekashi revealed that he had secured a $5 million agreement with the live-streaming company GlobalStreamNow. This deal includes a single virtual performance scheduled for September 5, 2020.

On multiple occasions, Tekashi69 has faced arrests. In 2015, he admitted guilt to felony charges involving the use of a child in a sexual performance. As part of the deal, he received three years of probation and was exempt from registering as a sex offender, provided he did not post sexually explicit content online and earned his GED. Ultimately, he did not pass the GED exam. In July 2018, he was apprehended due to an outstanding warrant stemming from an alleged choking incident at a Houston mall.

His 2018 arrests involved charges linked to weapons, drugs, and racketeering. To avert a potential 47-year prison sentence, he agreed to testify against members of the Nine Trey Bloods gang. His testimony spanned several days in September 2019, during which he revealed that the gang permitted him to act like a member as long as he financially supported them. He also indicated that following the release of his hit “Gummo,” he began making around $60,000 monthly from YouTube royalties and live performances.

In December 2019, he pled guilty in conjunction with an agreement reached with government authorities.

In recognition of his cooperation, the judge sentenced Tekashi to only 13 months in prison, while the defendants he testified against are confronting life sentences.

On March 22, 2020, citing concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak rampant in prisons, he sought early release. The government did not oppose this request, and he was released on April 2nd, earlier than his scheduled release in August 2020.

In March 2023, an incident occurred at an LA Fitness gym in Palm Beach County, Florida, where Tekashi was reportedly attacked in a steam room. Footage of the assault circulated on social media, showing his facial injuries, and as of now, one suspect has entered a not guilty plea.

Release

On May 8, 2020, Tekashi debuted his new track “Gooba” along with a music video. The video rapidly broke the record for the largest 24-hour debut for a hip-hop video on YouTube, amassing 40 million views in just one day. This surpassed the previous record of 38 million views held by Eminem for his song “Killshot” in 2018.

Within just a week, “Gooba” reached over 150 million views.

On the same day, May 8th, Tekashi hosted an Instagram live session that drew over two million simultaneous viewers, breaking the existing record by more than 1.7 million participants.

Tekashi claimed that in under a week, he had earned $2 million from “Gooba” through YouTube ad revenue, Spotify royalties, and other revenue streams. He also expressed his intention to donate 10% of the proceeds to charitable organizations.

Personal Life

Weeks before his imprisonment at the end of 2018, Tekashi began a relationship with Rachel “Jade” Watley. He has a daughter born in October 2015, with Sara Molina, and another daughter, who was born in November 2018, with Marlayna M.

Fluent in Spanish, Tekashi has performed in the language on four songs: “Bebe,” “Mala,” “Yaya,” and “Bori.” He also deals with asthma.

After his release, Tekashi moved into a modest residence in Lido Beach. Once his location was discovered by a neighbor, he had to relocate, reportedly settling in Water Mill, New York, in an 8,500-square-foot house with views of the estate, which features a tree farm. At that time, the property was listed for rental at $55,000.
