What is Rick Harrison’s net worth?

Rick Harrison is an American entrepreneur and reality television personality with an estimated net worth of $9 million. He is a member of the Harrison family, owners of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The family’s fame largely stems from the reality TV series “Pawn Stars,” which showcases the various escapades and events occurring at their pawn shop.

Early Life

On March 22, 1965, Richard Kevin Harrison was born in Lexington, North Carolina, to parents Richard Benjamin Harrison Jr. and Joanne Harrison. Richard is the third-born child in the family. He had an older sister named Sherry who passed away at the age of six, alongside an older brother, Joseph, and a younger brother, Chris. His father served in the U.S. Navy. At the age of two, the family relocated to San Diego due to his father’s transfer. Harrison faced epileptic seizures starting from age eight, which often kept him bedridden and sparked a lifelong passion for reading. Though he attended Taft Middle School in San Diego, he left during his sophomore year to focus on his “business of selling fake Gucci bags,” earning $2,000 each week. The Harrison family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in April 1981.

Career

After settling in Las Vegas, Harrison’s father launched his first thrift store in 1981. The initial Gold & Silver Coin Shop was a small, 300-square-foot establishment situated on Las Vegas Boulevard. During the day, Harrison worked at his father’s shop, while at night, he repossessed cars. By 1986, the business upgraded to a larger location in downtown Las Vegas, but in 1988, they lost their lease. The shop then relocated to a new commercial site on Las Vegas Boulevard. For years, the idea of transforming the coin shop into a pawnshop was a discussion between Harrison and his father, seen as the logical progression of their enterprise. However, due to a 1955 Las Vegas law restricting pawn licenses based on population size, this transformation proved challenging. With Las Vegas reaching a population of over 640,000 by 1988, Harrison contacted the city’s statistician weekly, aiming to secure one of the limited pawn licenses as soon as the city hit the next population milestone. In 1989, they finally received their license and opened the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop close to the Las Vegas Strip. Harrison and his father co-managed the shop until his father’s passing in 2018.

By 2005, Harrison and his father were lending around $3 million annually, yielding approximately $700,000 in income from interest on the loans. By 2006, the pawnshop garnered recognition for its unique sports memorabilia. It also became a refuge for gamblers needing to pawn items to afford transportation back home.

Following the features of his shop in a 2001 PBS documentary and appearances on the popular Comedy Central show Insomniac with Dave Attell in 2003, Harrison invested four years promoting the concept of a television show centered on his pawnshop. The idea circulated through HBO and YouTube until it was finally developed by the History Channel into what we now recognize as Pawn Stars—the highest-rated program on the channel. Since its debut in July 2009, Pawn Stars has successfully aired 21 seasons and 633 episodes as of June 2023, solidifying its status as the leading show on The History Channel. Its immense popularity led the network to renew the series in groups of 80 episodes, a rare practice in the industry.

For any television series, particularly a reality one, this is quite an accomplishment.

Currently, Corey Harrison, Rick’s son, is employed at the store and frequently appears on the show alongside his childhood best friend, Austin “Chumlee” Russell. On the show, Rick is known as “The Spotter” due to his remarkable talent for identifying undervalued items.

Personal Life

At the age of 17, Harrison’s girlfriend Kim became pregnant. Even after a miscarriage, the couple chose to get married. Their first child, Corey, arrived on April 27, 1983. Two years later, they welcomed their second child, Adam. Shortly following Adam’s birth, Harrison and Kim decided to part ways.

Nine months later, a blind double date led Harrison to meet Tracy, who would eventually become his second wife. After six months of dating, they moved in together, and eight months later, they tied the knot, assuming the role of parenting Corey and Adam. However, they later divorced.

In 2012, following two divorces, Harrison announced his engagement to Deanna Burditt, who also had been divorced twice. They wed on July 21, 2013, in Laguna Beach, California, but the marriage ended in divorce in September 2020. In 2021, Harrison married Amanda Palmer.

Additionally, Rick Harrison has shown interest in political matters, briefly considering a run for governor of Nevada in 2022 and is mulling a bid for the U.S. Senate in 2024.

Lawsuit

Following the passing of Richard Harrison, known as “The Old Man,” in 2018, Rick’s mother, Joanne, initiated a lawsuit concerning family assets and the ownership of their Las Vegas pawn shop. The lawsuit contends that while she was hospitalized in 2000/2001, Rick persuaded her to sign over her 51% stake in the business. It claims that after Richard’s death in 2018, Joanne inherited his 49% share of the pawn shop but alleges that Rick did not provide her with full financial documentation. Joanne also claims she has been unable to obtain a detailed accounting of over $500,000 in cash and silver that she believes her husband amassed prior to his demise. She is seeking unspecified damages, an asset accounting, and a court order that prevents Rick Harrison from utilizing her funds, along with a “constructive trust” over property that is rightfully hers.

Real Estate

In 2019, Harrison put his Red Rock Country Clubhouse in Summerlin, Las Vegas, on the market for $3.99 million. This 8,845-square-foot residence was constructed in 2001. He purchased it in 2016, investing approximately $600,000 in renovations. The formal sitting room features granite flooring that has been acid-washed, cut into planks, and installed like hardwood at a cost of $45,000. The house includes two bedrooms on the lower level and two more on the upper level, along with a gym that can double as a bedroom. Additionally, there are seven bathrooms, a home theater accommodating 12 people with a 150-inch screen and a curtain, and a wine cellar with a capacity for over 1,000 bottles. The property has an elevator and a central sound system, allowing music to play in any room via a smartphone.

The front of the home offers views of the Spring Mountains in Red Rock Canyon, while the backyard presents a stunning vista of the Strip and the Arroyo Golf Club. The upstairs game room features a balcony that overlooks the rear of the property. Outdoors, the yard is equipped with a lagoon-style pool, an elevated spa, and a gate leading directly to the golf course. A 10-foot waterfall and a lazy river enhance the pool area, which is complemented by an outdoor kitchen. The neighborhood was chosen by Harrison because it was where their children attended high school, but with the kids now grown, the large space is no longer necessary.
